Previously a documentary photographer, his work has been published in magazines and newspapers worldwide. In 2002 he founded the photo agencies Picture Contact and Feature Contact. In July 2010, Wijnands, together with Michel Elings started TRVL, the first iPad exclusive magazine in the world, heralding a new era in magazine publishing.〔("Computerworld: Apple iPad The Daily TRVL and publishing too" )〕 In August 2012 Wijnands co-founded Prss, a mobile publishing platform, again with his business partner Elings. In 2014 Prss was acquired by Apple to help create Apple News and the Apple News Format.
